Tai Kwun marks its eighth anniversary with ENCORE! – HKJC Celebrates Tai Kwun 8th Anniversary, launching a dynamic season bursting with imagination and connection. Made possible by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) in partnership with the Hong Kong SAR Government, this milestone event is an extension of HKJC's long‑standing commitment to conserve and revitalise Tai Kwun, and to continue funding and supporting its operations and programmes. The anniversary honours the collective creative energies that have formed Tai Kwun over the past eight years and welcomes Hong Kong to come together once again and be part of its ongoing story.
Kicking off in May, the anniversary programme builds on the success of last year’s diverse offerings, which drew a record‑breaking 5.2 million visits across a broad spectrum of cultural events. Themed around A Vibrant Summer Awaits, the early-summer lineup unfolds through a multifaceted programme, coalescing around the Parade Ground as it transforms into a stylish Summer Deck. With a verdant lawn and relaxed, resort-like setting, the space becomes an urban oasis where visitors can recharge between exhibitions, world‑class performances, and a refined mix of summer dining, drinking and shopping.
Throughout the summer, Tai Kwun is not only an arts and culture landmark, but also a vibrant space that breathes and resonates with the city. From guided tours exploring history and architecture from fresh perspectives to hands-on workshops and in-depth exhibition experiences, programs encourage the public to discover new ideas from different angles. Activities also extend beyond historical sites, with tram workshops guiding participants through Hong Kong's urban development trajectory and exploring architectural, natural, and intangible cultural heritage. To celebrate its eighth anniversary, a 20% discount is offered on selected event tickets. From May 22 to July 1, Tai Kwun fans who spend a net value of HK$100 or more at Tai Kwun restaurants and shops can redeem a special edition Tai Kwun stamp.
As summer arrives, a series of exciting exhibitions and performances will take place, bringing together works by leading contemporary artists and site-specific creations. Highlights include: the highly anticipated Tai Kwun pop culture exhibition "Snap and Go – We Ride Side by Side in Light and Shadow"; the Asian premiere of "Wayne McGregor: Another Place," the world's first 360-degree post-film dance installation, acclaimed in Venice and London, offering a groundbreaking art and technology experience; a solo exhibition of live art by Zhuang Wei, an artist active in Berlin and Hong Kong who participated in the 60th Venice Biennale; and "Unboxing," a third-time return of the audience-driven project by Filipino artist Ryan Villamar.
